Colorado Pledge to Diversity Legal Group In 1993, as a result of the collaborative efforts of twenty-three Denver law firms, a plan was launched to significantly increase the number of racially and ethnically diverse attorneys recruited, hired, and promoted by law firms in Colorado. These law firms signed a Pledge to Racial and Ethnic Diversity in Colorado Law Firms to evidence such commitment, and over the years these signatory law firms have met regularly to determine the means by which to achieve the goals set forth in the Pledge. The Preamble to the Pledge and the Pledge itself, not only represent the commitment of the signatory firms, but represent the commitment of many Denver lawyers, who are acutely aware that the legal profession has not achieved sufficient diversity -- and needs to devote the time and resources to take active steps toward attaining diversity in its many facets. The Pledge Group’s major initiatives include a Summer Clerkship program for diverse first year law students at the University of Colorado and first year and second year evening students at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, and two annual diversity receptions. For more information, go to www.cptd.org. The Pledge Group sponsors an annual diversity reception, in conjunction with the Young Lawyers Division of the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association.
