Volunteers are encouraged to pursue their personal interests in diversity by joining groups working on pipeline, recruiting, or retention efforts (go to “Initiatives” on the website for more detailed information).

Pipeline efforts are undertaken by the Pipeline Working Group, the Diversity in the Legal Profession Committee of the CBA and DBA, Dream Teams (small groups of judges, lawyers, and law students who go into the community to encourage young diverse students to go into law), and the Specialty Bars (see below). Volunteers are needed to assist as judges for the Urban Debate League, which involves nearly 60 diverse inner-city high school students, many of who are interested in legal careers (2009-10 school year schedule will be posted in September).  Additional Pipeline initiatives are being planned by CCIE.

Recruiting efforts include the Recruiting Working Group, the Colorado Pledge to Diversity Legal Group, and the Denver Area Legal Recruitment Association.

Retention efforts are led by the Retention Working Group. CCIE's Retention Working Group hosted a ground-breaking series of workshops in September 2009 for diverse associates at CCIE-participating law firms and six corporate general counsel - Rich Baer, Qwest Communications; Michael Connelly, Xcel Energy Inc., Annita Menogan, Red Robin Gourmet Burgers; Stephen Smith, Lockheed Martin Space Systems; Karen Ripley, MillerCoors; and Kevin MacCary, United Launch Alliance.  The GCs also met with the managing partners of the participating firms.  The goal was to explore hidden issues causing higher attrition among diverse law firm associates and create partnerships between the GCs and managing partners to find solutions to these issues.

Law students at CU and DU Law Schools are making significant contributions to the diversity effort by volunteering on Dream Teams, organizing an effort to study the myth of meritocracy as it impacts diversity, and scheduling diversity awareness seminars.

Diverse attorneys are also involved in promoting diversity through the seven specialty bar groups in the legal community:

Volunteers are welcome to participate in the work of the Campaign. The Board of Directors oversees three Board committees: Fundraising, Marketing, and Education. The work of these committees is critical to the success of the nonprofit.  Contact CCIE Communications Director Meg Satrom at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or 303.832.3503 to become involved.
